So by being there in a medical mission I can allow myself to talk on behalf of the Blind people of Darfour and to cry for help. I was astounded to find that in the region of southern Darfour, where Cataract and Glaucoma are prevalent there was no volunteering Ophthalmologists, not even one.
Dear Friends,
Thanks to the Founder and all those who work on the Mission Eyes Network, I find it the best site to get acquainted with missionary services around the globe. Every time I visit it, I get greatly blessed. It is a source of continuous immense inspiration to me.
The teaching materials and videos are very informative, beneficial and can be put to practice easily, they widen my horizons.
As I hoped, through this site and its concise information I now know a lot about various missions, mentioning here few of them as : Mercy Ships, Christian Blind Mission, Blind Outreach, Light House For Christ and Interserve.
What compelled me to share this rejoicing experience with You is the news I read today about selecting two American Ophthalmologists for the 2008 AAO Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award.
While I was reading the news about the missionary work of Dr.Geoff Tabin in Himalayan Cataract Project, I was inspired to tackle the tremendous need of Darfour in Sudan for such a Project.
I have been an eye witness of the extremely difficult conditions there. I am not exaggerating when I say that Darfour is one of the most catastrophically devastated and impoverished areas on our planet. The basic human needs are absent. Hundreds thousands of people are left without water, food or shelter. Life there is literally unbearable.
I believe the reasons behind that are not only due to the protracted war, but also due to the neglect ion of the international community. Despite this tragedy, the People of Darfour are still very kind, hospitable and extremely grateful. They deserve our respect, love and action.
There is no doubt that sending a mission there is currently extremely difficult and full of jeopardy, but I am not giving up because with our omnipotent Lord Jesus Christ I believe even such a mission is feasible.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you feel interested.
Sincerely Yours
Amjad Ziadat , Ophthalmologist
